FUNCTIONAL TRANSFERS

FUNCTIONAL TRANSFERS

In this section I will address  simple modifications with examples that can make your loved one more independent.  Depending on the patient's height, most seating surfaces should be between 17 and 19 inches from the floor to the seat, keeping in mind, for example, couch cushions or a bed surface that can compress down to a much lower height. My specific way to personalize these recommendations is to assess the position of my client when seated. For example, suppose that person seated appears with their knees higher than their hips. In that case, they will likely have difficulty rising off of that surface, whereas if their hips are slightly higher than their knees, it will be much easier and less physically demanding for a person to come from sitting to stand.
